Frequently asked questions

What is the initial interview? +

A first conversation to understand what brings you to therapy and see if this is the right space for you.

Do you work with children? +

No. IMALVA works with adolescents and adults.

Is this a weight-loss service? +

No. Psychotherapy does not replace nutritional or medical care when that’s needed.

Do you prescribe medication? +

No. IMALVA does not prescribe; she coordinates with psychiatry when the process calls for it.

How long does the process take? +

It varies by person; no fixed timeline is promised.

How often are sessions? +

It depends on the type of work: twice a week for analysis, or once a week (or another schedule, depending on the case) for psychoanalytically-oriented psychotherapy.

How soon do I start noticing change? +

In adults, there is often immediate relief just from being able to name what is happening, as early as the first month. In adolescents, positive change tends to become visible around the first or second month.

What do I need technically for a session? +

A stable internet connection, headphones, and a private space.

Do you offer sessions in English? +

Yes, the service is bilingual.

Do you issue invoices? +

CFDI invoicing is in process with the Mexican tax authority (SAT); not available yet.

What is the cancellation policy? +

There are no direct cancellations: missed sessions are made up or negotiated during vacation periods, subject to schedule availability. Payment is per session or monthly in advance, to hold your time slot.

Do you handle emergencies? +

No. IMALVA is not an emergency service — see the crisis support page. If you need to reach the practice between sessions about something that has intensified within an ongoing process, that goes through the practice’s WhatsApp.

Do you work with gender and sexual diversity? +

Yes, affirmatively.

What if my case is outside your scope? +

You’ll be referred to an appropriate professional.
